Maryville, Tenn. – Kizer & Black, Attorneys, PLLC, announced this week new plans to relocate the law firm’s long-standing location at 329 Cates Street in Maryville to 217 East Broadway Avenue at the corner of College Street in Downtown Maryville.
Owned by Partners Development of Knoxville, which signed a long-term lease for Kizer & Black to assume the new space for move-in as early as this fall, the location at 217 East Broadway will enable Kizer & Black to expand to more than 10,000 square feet of contiguous space – bringing all of the firm’s partners, attorneys, and staff under one roof for the first time in more than 16 years of the 49-year-old firm.
“Our current building on Cates Street has certainly been iconic to the Kizer & Black name for many years now, and it has been a wonderful and deeply meaningful place for us to call home all these years,” said Kizer & Black Partner and Chief Manager Kelly Love Manning.
“However, many people don’t realize that we are using four buildings at the Cates Street property – the main house as well as three annex buildings situated behind it – in order to accommodate our growing team,” Manning said.
“The inherent logistical challenges of having our team sited across these various structures led us to explore new space,” Manning said. “We are delighted by being able to move to the core of Downtown Maryville and provide a new street-facing anchor for that side of Broadway, which we hope will spur continued growth and development for our other business neighbors. This new single-building location will also bring new efficiencies to our team, which we can then deliver to our clients.”
“Kizer & Black’s new location is such a welcome addition to our main Downtown Maryville thoroughfare on Broadway,” said Maryville City Manager Greg McClain. “The renovations to the existing building will be a wonderful addition to the many recently updated properties within this city block and will help us continue to attract vitality to our downtown in new ways – particularly in light of Maryville’s announcement earlier this year of earning Tennessee Main Street accreditation.”
Kizer & Black and Partners Development are planning a major renovation of all three floors of building space, with Design Innovation Architects, Inc. leading the redesign.
“This building at 217 East Broadway is one of those ‘diamonds in the rough,’ offering so much potential with the right level of renovation for a tenant who plans to be there for the long-term,” said building owner and Partners Development President and CEO Russ Watkins.
“We are thrilled for that tenant to be Kizer & Black,” Watkins said. “Their deep-rooted history here in Maryville means that they care about the community and about creating the kind of space in this building that not only they will be proud of but the whole community will be proud of as well.”
“We will watch with great interest what Marty and David plan for the future of this property, and knowing them, it will be something very special that contributes to the fabric of Maryville, just as they have contributed so much over these many years,” said Kizer & Black Partner Matt Haralson.
“Our group feels an immense sense of pride in the enduring foundation that David and Marty contribute to make Kizer & Black such a well-respected name in the legal community, and we look forward to carrying on that tradition of excellence at the new location,” Haralson said.
Founded in Maryville, Tenn., in 1968, Kizer & Black, Attorneys, PLLC, offers legal expertise across a wide range of practice areas and will be celebrating 50 years as part of the community in 2018.
