Based in Knoxville, Tenn., upscale clothier M.S. McClellan has been a purveyor of fine clothing to discriminating men and women as well as the students of the University of Tennessee since 1966. The retailer maintains the same time-honored respect for tradition in fine apparel as it did at its inception. There have been changes in fashion as well as locations, but M. S. McClellan’s standard of quality and service has always remained a constant and always will. But after nearly 50 years in business, manager Bob McClellan was looking for a new way to communicate directly with customers through a medium that is exploding. He engaged MBWC to develop an iOS mobile application that would connect the store and customers at a very personal level. The app would literally put M.S. McClellan in the hands of its biggest champions: current clientele.
MBWC developed relationship-driven content pieces with an app that would communicate events (sales, etc.), with the ability to import into the customer’s iPhone calendar; notify customers of new arrivals; include a dossier to store sizing information for the customer’s family and friends; include a resource with helpful advice “on the fly,” such as “How to Tie a Bowtie,” “How to Polish a Shoe,” or “The Essential Rules of Black Tie,” among other topics. Key audiences for the app were identified as current and potential customers primarily males, ages 25-55 who were fashion-oriented. Now the app has 834 active users and won a 2014 Silver ADDY Award.
