Mary Beth West is a public relations executive with 20 years’ experience managing marketing communications strategies and campaigns, with proven business results meeting companies’ and organizations’ sales/development, branding and reputation management objectives.
Celebrating 12 years in business in spring 2015, Mary Beth West founded her public relations firm in March 2003. Randy McGinnis brings more than 30 years of experience as both a business owner and an operational executive, with much of his experience in federal government contracting, as well as crisis prevention and response operations. With expertise in strategy, vision, and mission planning, his excellent business relationships extend throughout the U.S. Department of Energy and Department of Defense.
Prior to joining MBWC, Randy served as founder and CEO of Echota Technologies Corporation, Inc., a multi-million dollar corporation that specialized in providing technology and consulting services combined with effective management of large-scale projects within the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, international commercial nuclear communities and private industry. Echota was the largest 8(a) firm in the Greater Knoxville area before Randy sold the company in 2011. In 2009, Randy was awarded “Tennessee Small Business Person of the Year” by the U.S. Small Business Administration, and in 2008, his company was named Tennessee’s Minority Business of the Year. In 2006, he was awarded the U.S. Department of Defense’s prestigious Nunn-Perry Award. His earlier career included special assignments and supervisory posts at the Y-12 Nuclear Weapons Plant in Oak Ridge and at the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Portsmouth, Ohio, supervising all plant operations personnel.
A Native American Cherokee (Deer Clan), Randy is well-known in East Tennessee as well as nationally as a Native American flute player, with numerous CDs released – from which he directs all proceeds go to charity – and a winner in 2010 of the Native American Music Awards. He is currently a 2014 NAMA nominee. Randy enjoys volunteering as part of the International Native American Flute Association to preserve the heritage of the Native American flute and to conduct educational outreach. He also serves on the board of the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center in Townsend, Tenn., where he also founded the Smoky Mountain Flute Circle. Randy and his wife Marsha live in Knoxville.
Tori Rose has worked with Mary Beth West’s team for more than five years, providing creative, technology and marketing services, including design, development, animation, video, illustration, branding, print, e-commerce, database, CMS, search optimization, copywriting, promotions and campaigns.
April Timko is responsible for managing campaigns and projects for MBWC clients, ensuring all projects are communicated and executed on time and within budget according to the required strategic direction of each campaign. With her experience in account management as well as project and production supervision, April is skilled at listening and leading to achieve results above and beyond clients’ expectations.
April comes to Mary Beth West Communications with over a decade of agency experience including account management positions with Knoxville-based Shelton Group and BOHAN in Nashville. Bringing from her experience a wealth of knowledge, she has many years of account management under her belt and can provide clients with exceptional service from start to finish.
Her clients have included Grainger, Kohler, Johnson & Johnson, Boeing, Ekornes, Bristol Motor Speedway, Weis Markets, Food City and numerous utilities such as Ameren and FirstEnergy. She’s earned a reputation as someone who can bring together and execute a communications plan with discipline and creativity.
With an additional strong background in broadcast production, April has achieved industry awards as a producer and production manager including Addy Awards and Telly Awards. She is also an experienced actress and singer that has appeared on TV and radio commercials as well as the theater stage. An East Tennessee native, April attended Carson-Newman University, earning a Bachelor of Arts, Mass Communications and Music. She is active with several non-profits and ministries as a volunteer and vocalist. April lives in Knoxville with her musically-talented family that includes her husband Randall and two stepchildren, Austin and Kendall.
Mike brings nearly 30 years of technological design and development, management and leadership experience in the high-tech industry to his role at MBWC. He provides senior level technical consulting on software development and technology solutions for a range of client projects, including mobile apps. Mike achieves results through exceptional subject matter expertise, technology leadership, intensive innovation and client collaboration.
Mike’s career began in Information Systems where he was instrumental in the implementation of early computer systems integration for Uster Technologies AG. Later he served as Chief Operating Officer of Wagner, a privately held precision machine shop specializing in conventional and unconventional manufacturing of components for the aerospace, defense, and scientific instrumentation sectors. In 2012 he became president and CEO of Echota Technologies Corporation, a comprehensive technology and consulting services company where he oversaw the company’s involvement with commercial enterprises and the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, as other federal and state agencies. Mike lives in Knoxville, Tennessee with his wife Donna. The couple has three children.
Élan’s role on the team is implementing secondary research of statistical data, past editorial coverage, competitor profiles, and other information in the public domain to support necessary insights for new and incoming clients. She coordinates with senior agency staff to formulate tactical execution grids within timelines and budgets. Additionally, she coordinates special projects for clients, such as client orientation and protocols. Internally, Élan spearheads the integration of agency best-practices within digital and interactive communications and plans the agency’s own strategic planning. This position was preceded by two years spent as MBWC’s content developer, where she wrote and edited marketing collateral, ads, press releases and website text for a range of corporate and non-profit clients.
Prior to joining the MBWC in 2012, Élan spent more than 10 years in the communications field where she gained experience in academia, custom publishing, non-profit organizations and freelance writing and editing. Among the crossover skills acquired from her varied work experiences includes an understanding of processes/workflows, brand and organizational strategy, crisis communications, and the ability to write and edit for diverse needs and audiences under deadline. Élan has an MFA in Creative Writing from UNC Greensboro and a BA in Public Policy from UNC Chapel Hill. Since 2010 she has served on the board of the local watershed organization supporting the conservation of the Little River in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains.
Laura is responsible for managing multiple projects from initial job start through completion. She works along with the account service team to estimate, schedule and track jobs through delivery. As an internal agency liaison with all departments, she makes sure projects stay on schedule and within budget.
Laura is a Maryville College graduate and holds certificates in both social media marketing from the University of Tennessee and inbound marketing from HubSpot. Laura has over 15 years’ experience in marketing and project management and was with national handbag company Maggie Bags prior to joining our team. Among just some of her responsibilities at Maggie Bags, Laura wrote copy for both their website and social media outlets; planned and implemented brand contests; completed graphic design for website, e-mail marketing, and social media; helped plan and facilitate professional photo shoots; handled website maintenance; and managed daily electronic data interchange and drop ship operations.
Prior to Maggie Bags, Laura worked for nine years at a higher education professional association as manager of corporate relations, and prior to that, served for five years with a major processor of credit card transactions as relationship manager and team trainer.
A communications maven, Cassandra brings her talents in journalism, content development and brand awareness to the MBWC team. She serves as the communications manager, playing a key role in the oversight of local, regional and national media relations campaigns for clients.
Prior to joining MBWC, Cassandra navigated the world of sports media relations where she formed relationships with media members on the local and national level. She spent time working for Mizzou Athletics and the Big 12 Conference before making her way to East Tennessee handling media relations efforts for the University of Tennessee women’s basketball and volleyball programs. Cassandra got her start in the media world working as a one-man-band reporter and web editor for KOMU-TV, the NBC affiliate in Columbia, Mo.
Cassandra is proud to be an advocate and a “Big” for Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee, as well as a 2014 Knoxville Rising Stars nominee for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation – East Tennessee Chapter. A native Midwesterner, she grew up in the Land of Lincoln and graduated from the University of Missouri with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism and a minor in Spanish. She holds a master’s degree in sport management from the University of Tennessee. When she’s not pitching her heart out, she can be found upside down in a hot yoga class, frequenting The Tomato Head or watching any sporting event.
Jessica is responsible for managing client and project activities for Mary Beth West Communications. She is designated as the liaison between clients and the MBWC team to ensure streamlined communications, accurate information and client satisfaction across all components.
Jessica has a variety of marketing and communications experience stemming from work with the State of Tennessee, engineering firms and various entrepreneurial clients. Through these experiences she executed client and project management for public sector, real estate and technical service organizations. Also, she currently serves as the communications chair for the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation East Tennessee Chapter. Jessica graduated from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor’s in public relations and minor in business administration in May 2012.
During her collegiate career, she worked for the Athletic Department in media relations while serving in leadership positions for her sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, the Public Relations Student Society of America and Susan G. Komen – Knoxville.
Sarah’s main responsibilities at Mary Beth West Communications are to support the client service team with general communications and outreach tasks including media relations, community relations and organizational outreach. Her focus is on successfully fulfilling client scopes of work, meeting client service needs and helping grow client relationships.
Sarah gained experience in project management and sustainability communications through her previous position as the Communications Manager for the University of Tennessee’s EcoCAR 2 team. During her senior year, she made connections throughout the community through her role as Co-Vice President of the Sammie Lynn Puett chapter of PRSSA. She also worked for the University of Tennessee Outdoor Program, where she assisted with trip marketing, trip leading and group building. Sarah graduated from UT with a bachelor’s degree in public relations and a minor in business administration in August 2014. Her campaign studies focused on nonprofit fundraising and member and donor relations.
Marijo graduated from the Universidad del Valle de Mexico in graphic design in 2003 with honors. From 2005 to 2009, she was a part of the creative team of La Jabonera Studio, designing for companies such as Kellogg’s, Coca-Cola, Bticino and Hafele. She also colabrorated developing brand design for entrepreneur mothers in Singapore and a few other clients in Australia, México and the United States.
Marijo Soto has worked with members of the MBWC team for more than 10 years, producing award-winning graphic design for a wide range of client campaigns and projects. She specializes in computer hand illustration.
As a mother of three kids (a girl and twin boys) with developmental disabilities, she has become a hearted advocate for special needs children’s rights in her home town and founded a project that encourages mothers in the same situations to find happiness within adversity.
Jamie Stooksbury serves the MBWC team as interactive coordinator on all agency accounts, helping develop social and interactive communications support tools, content and knowledge support for the team. Jamie graduated from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor’s in advertising and minors in business and psychology in May 2013.
Jamie previously served as marketing coordinator for Diverse Concepts, parent company of many restaurants in the Greater Knoxville area including Lakeside Tavern, Riverside Grille and Parkside Tavern.
During her time at UT, she was a member of the Ad Club and participated in campaign projects for Microsoft Bing!, Abilify and Doritos’ “Crash the Super Bowl” contest. Jamie is also assistant editor and story writer for the Oak Ridge publication Melton Hill Lake Living. Although she has lived in California, Maryland and Washington D.C., Jamie has called Maryville, Tenn., “home” for the past decade.
Catherine serves the Mary Beth West Communications team as the Media Relations Associate. In this role, she assists the Media Relations team with general communications efforts and outreach tasks including media relations, community relations and organizational outreach. Her main responsibilities include supporting the communications manager with the execution and oversight of local, regional and national media relations campaigns for clients of MBWC. Also as a part of her duties, she manages and oversees the duties of our public relations interns.
Prior to the Media Relations Associate position, Catherine was an intern at MBWC, but quickly excelled into her new role. She graduated from the University of Tennessee in May with a bachelor of science in communication, with a major in public relations and a minor in business administration.
